From a very young age Mike Grubbs, the frontman for Wakey!Wakey!, began playing the piano for fun. His mother, a piano teacher made him read music early, and instead of playing video games like most of us in our teenage years, he played the piano. Mix in some years of experimenting and releasing some songs and you get Wakey!Wakey!’s first full length album. After listening to a couple songs from Youtube and his website I was impressed and had to share the love. I’m a sucker for good piano and strings, what can I say.

my first time hear them. thank you for the introduction!
this is really a very good one! my favorite type of music from bands.
can’t agree more with you that piano and strings are amazing~ bands with solid and abundant knowledge and passion on instruments and the very basic of music create pieces that move and amaze people beyond they can imagine.
great pick, Owen! love it.
Thanks fiona! I’m going to try to keep all the songs fresh on here. There are a couple people who’ve told me that they like my taste in music and if I can introduce someone to a song they’ve never heard before and that song brightens their day then this whole thing is worth it. That’s what it’s all about. I’m really glad you like it!
Also, I really like spreading the word about good bands that normally don’t get heard on the radio or on TV. And often times, it’s this type of music, which is truly genuine and not produced by a major label that changes the artist’s true vision of the music and waters it down to make it appeal to the largest possible audience to increase CD sales. That’s another reason why sharing music that you don’t often hear about is so important. It’s the pure stuff!
of course i love it, owen! i like your taste on music, too. especially you also try to know more on the artists and bands than simply focus on the great pieces. it’s not easy for people to do so, but in my opinion, the idea behind the melody and lyrics is always one of the most important things that make the music special. it’s nice to know more about it. sometimes it’s just like getting to know the history ,culture, and tradition of countries and cities. people matter so much. the thinking and feelings and ideas that were put into the music can make the notes and the combination of the notes sound so different from one another.
i totally agree with you on the idea about good indie bands. what you said reminds me of the old days when i often walked into the small stores after school looking for and listening to the great bands underground not being produced by big labels. not all of them are that good, but often times, as you said, the geniune and passion you can find in their works can be so powerful and pure.
by the way, there is a good news to share with you.
after i heard this song and love it, i share it with my family and friends. today one of them called and asked if i want to order the album with them since they stopped by the shop and were ordering the album of wakey!wakey!
great job, owen! you are the gardian of purity.:-)
Well said Fiona, and thank you so much for your kind words! That’s great to know that I helped them find an artist that they really like!
