postheadericon Song of the Day: John Brown’s Body – Picking Up

John Brown's Body - Picking Up song

John Brown’s Body is a poem, a song, and also a band according to Wikipedia. The last of the three would be this creative group of reggae masters from Boston and Ithaca. They’ve got what it takes to take Reggae to the masses, their blends of genres side steps from the classic straight Reggae traditions and creates something new that can make anyone shake a leg. They pump out tunes and keep the good vibes alive. Get some free music downloads off of their official John Brown’s Body website in the upper right corner by giving them your email address.

postheadericon Song of the Day: Filthy Dukes – This Rhythm

Electronic indie music 2011

“Get your Filthy Dukes off me!”, she cried before screaming and dashing out of the dark pulsing London nightclub. Funny scene huh, happens ALL THE TIME!

What’s with all the electronic music on the Song of the Day blog? This doesn’t sound like indie music, it’s like I’m in a Nintendo game from the 80′s or something? Which makes me wonder, did they have Nintendo in England in 1985 too? The guys from Filthy Dukes probably did, damn dirty remixers.

postheadericon Song of the Day: Delorean – Moonson

indie electronic group Song of the Day: Delorean - Moonson

Delorean, not to be confused with Dolorean, or a rapper, or a car.

Update: 4/11 Just talked to the band Dream Thieves today on a flight on their way back to Iowa City from Coachella 2011 and they mentioned Delorean was on the list of amazing bands playing at the festival. Said they really enjoyed Delorean along with the rest of the showing. Perhaps Dream Thieves will be there next year? Dream Thieves sounds much like a mix between Phantogram and Crystal Castles. Very good tunes.

postheadericon Song of the Day: Ratatat – Mirando

Music video Ratatat - Mirando review

Ratatat is a Brooklyn based duo that produces some good tunes that are easily recognizable but diverse in their minimal synthesized melodies and progressions. Their music can replicate tonal landscapes that are reminiscent of bands like Radiohead, The Strokes, Crystal Castles but also vary into different musical themes that employ melodies riffs and sounds from all sorts of musical genres from hip-hop, to R&B, to New Wave and Rock. It’s hard to find any bad songs by this band. Here’s a bunch of other great songs with music videos on YouTube that I found by them that are really worth listening to. You have to hear them to get a taste for what this band can do. Be careful not to play them all at once. ;-)

postheadericon Song of the Day : Van She – Changes

indie song of the day changes by Van She album VThis song Changes off of Van She’s 2008 album V is an upbeat indie pop song that takes you on a quick bouncing tour of good feelings. Their music video which is a compilation of still images from their tour fits the song well, although makes me a little mentally nauseous sometimes as it’s frenetic pace feels like watching a film in fast forward. Their other songs are worth checking out as they are not all very similar. The one main theme in their music is the incorporation of electric synth sounds and the timeless neon reflecting on metal kind of bright lights in Vegas drug induced kind of mood they project. Besides this song of the day Van She has several other music videos to check out an enjoy, because they have a variety to their music I recommend giving their other songs a listen too.

postheadericon Song of the Day : The Radio Dept. – Heaven’s On Fire

The Radio Dept. - Heaven's On Fire music artist picture

Just found this and wanted to post it. Please excuse my super brief post writing. I’ve just been working so much, and I don’t get paid for this. hahahahaha. But if you appreciate it, please let me know, I just love encouragement and support. If you have any Song of the Day recommendations, like indie bands or just your favorite songs or artists, or just want to tell me about something, please share. LOL

postheadericon The Drums – Let’s Go Surfing

More music videos by The Drums that I like:

The Drums – Forever & Ever Amen
The Drums – Me and the Moon

I made this the Song of the Day because it’s catchy. The whistling, casual run down the beach at night, the care-free message of surfing in the lyrics and plea to just do what you want to.
