Song of the Day

Matt Pond PA is an indie band out of Philadelphia that started in 1998 and has 8 albums out. Matt Pond put the band together and the rest of the band members have changed so much that “PA” seems to work best, or maybe the other members of the band just don’t like being referred to as “PA”, which has created the high band turn-over rate. I’m not sure which.

This song is off their 2005 album Several Arrows Later which is excellent and worth buying, the album has several other gems on it, including Snow Day which didn’t really have a good music video for it, so I posted this song instead which is also great. Snow Day apparently isn’t on any of their albums though, which is odd. But which is available on Amazon.

Matt Pond PA’s music is so approachable and enjoyable that it’s like sitting down with good friends having drinks and curling up by the fireplace while good cheer floods the room. Maybe it’s all because of the song Snow Day which makes me think about Iowa winters from my childhood. I think I also enjoy their music because of the richness of the sound and their incorporation of a lot of classical instruments and rich string sounds that you don’t normally find in most indie bands. However, Matt Pond, the lead vocalist of the band does have such a consistent volume and tone to his voice though that a lot of their songs can sound the same. But if it’s the kind of sound you like then it’s great.
