Song of the Day: The Wombats – Techno Fan
THE WOMBATS – TECHNO FAN - from The Found Collective on Vimeo.
Indie Rock Band The Wombats are a 3 man group from Liverpool England that started in 2003. They’ve released two albums which you can hear on their website and MySpace page. You can also follow them on Twitter.
Great music video and great song! The music video is a compilation of left-over footage from a recording that was picked up and integrated into a visual editing program that sliced it up into this amazing animation. Theses guys do a fantastic job of taking the best of indie, rock, electronic, and new wave sound and compiling it into this killer track.
The song is about a guy who’s invited by a girl to join her at a techno concert, although it’s not his sound, he ends up going and realizes he’s a techno fan, which is a funny thing to sing about when the song itself isn’t a techno song, but maybe the point isn’t so much that he’s realizing that he likes techno music, but rather that he’s fallen in love with a girl who loves techno music.
Rock Song of the Day: The Hold Steady – The Weekenders
The Hold Steady’s new album Heaven is Whenever released last year is the next level up for the indie rock band from Brooklyn, NY. The band is touring the US right now so check out their official The Hold Steady website for tour dates, videos and more.
The band has done a couple music videos, but if you do some YouTube searches you’ll find a ton of fan made ones which came from a video contest they held. Other great songs of their to check out are:
You Can Make Him Like You – Your audio isn’t broken, keep watching.
Also, listen to their playlist on The Hold Steady’s MySpace page.
Song of the Day: Wolf Parade – I’ll Believe in Anything
Out of BC Wolf Parade rings true with a strong indie rock vein big enough for you to tap for months on end with a horde of feverish Canadian (British Columbian) miners. Song of the Day fo sho!
Also, check out their latest album release Expo 86, available now!
Song of the Day: Hello Vegas – No One Knows
HELLO VEGAS – No One Knows by hellovegas
Hello Vegas is actually from Los Angeles, under their own Treehouse Vibrations Group record label. The four man group consisting of Adam Reiter, Jason Pavilanis, Jesse Gurtis, and Zach Davis recently released their latest song “No One Knows” for free download.
Their music is a free living LA indie rock blend of clean rising guitar riffs and wind swept vocals. Their tracks sound like a live show on a grassy hill on a sunny west coast evening. The melodic sweeps and soft vocal interludes feels a bit like the Inspiration of Christian Rock mixed with the smooth easiness of classic soft rock, however, they are far from a Christian band (which makes me wonder what it would mean to be the farthest possible thing from a Christian band… imagination gears turning). The band keeps a fresh profile and
I’m sure would love to connect with you on their Twitter on Facebook page which serves as their official site. For a kick you’ve gotta check out their concert posters and band images on their MySpace page. These guys have a great sense of humor. And just because they sent it to me, here’s their band photo, featuring several tenacious neck beards.
Song of the Day: New Politics – Yeah Yeah Yeah
These guys have crazy energy, in your face everything, and eternally ready to rock. New Politics fist fight song about lies sold by the establishment to the people is guaranteed to either piss you off or make you cheer them on. Either way, kick as music and just the right energy mix for this week’s Song of the Day set. Personally I’m on the side of people, not the governments that convince people to bomb other people. The thing that makes it tough for many people to understand is that the media in the US is heavily filtered and restricted by the US government, we have freedom of speech but the spectrum of discussion is limited by the 4 people that own 99% of all of the media, newspapers, magazines, and TV shows we absorb.
Anyway, check these guys out on their official New Politics website and listen to their tracks on the New Politics MySpace page.
The Bulby Awards .CO Domain Contest Best Content Award
The Bulby Awards first annual contest between websites is under full swing and in the final stretch this week as many different websites including T.CO, Twitter’s URL shortener domain, Joan.CO of Joan Rivers, and many more compete for the top spots in 10 different categories from Best Content to Best Startup Resource to Best Social Idea. Song of the Day is proud to have been nominated for the category of Best Content against several other up and coming websites including an Irish Social News website, a Columbian news blog website, a Bahamas travel blog website and several others! The competition is fierce among these startup websites, and Song of the Day was off to an early lead against Pappas.co a blog that appeared to be the creation of the design team at another online company. Pappas.co soon took the lead as I personally didn’t bother sending out any more “Please vote for me” updates on my blog.
But now, seeing that I’ve been knocked into 3rd place tidily by the upstart Irish lifestyle and general interest blog Socialable.CO, I feel it’s my duty to at least give this another go and see what my fans and I can muster. I know there’s a lot of music lovers out there just waiting to put their vote in for Indie bands all across the nation. Let’s see where I can ring the freedom guitar and stomp on the distortion pedal to get more of my followers on Twitter, Facebook, and elsewhere to chime in for the music they love.
Even if I don’t win, it’s been a great honor to be recognized for my efforts in getting my love of great lesser known music out to the public. The message of my blog is simple, there are thousands of bands you’ve never heard of that are much better than what you hear on the radio and TV, and these bands need your support. Music is culture, and our culture cannot be found on the radio or on TV right now, tens of thousands of amazing bands exist right now that are never heard for the simple fact that major record labels and their subsidiary radio stations only care about making money and playing formula music that satisfies the widest possible audience.
Please take a moment to vote for Song of the Day in the Bulby Awards at Opportunity.CO.
New Metal Songs: Dead And Divine – Chemical Valley
Dead and Divine know how to knock things over with their sound, like your consciousness, your mom’s expensive china, and a bunch of other things designated to rhinos and 5.0 earthquakes. Their heavy jilted relentless hard hitting blows leave just enough room for your adrenaline to squeeze through your arteries as you [insert the most exhilarating experience you can imagine]. Your life only happens once, you only have this one moment, what are you waiting for, what’s stopping you? Nothing but you! What do you want to do, line em up and take ‘em one by one.
Broken down to its bloody bones, this song is about a guy who relentlessly keeps coming after a girl only to be shot down, or who had the girl for a brief time but has been bumped to the back of the long line of suitors again. They all want her, but he’s the only one killing for her chemical fix. Allow the metal to illustrate.
Maybe a lung, maybe a slew of tongues, maybe some old fashioned lonesome.
Really, its you who keeps dragging me back by my larynx and my lack of common sense.
Everyone has been dying to have you but I’ve been the only one killing for it.
Line ‘em up, one by one.
Hell hath no waste like us.
Ain’t being empty fun?
Dead and Divine appear to be from Burlington, ON, CANADA but recently spent a lot of time in Portland Oregon recording their first full length album The Fanciful in 2007, then entered the Toronto based label Distort and produced The Machines We Are and in August this year their soon to be released album Antimacy
New Song: Himalaya – Day Six
Driving down a psychedelic road through time and space in that place where monks are while deep in meditation Himalaya releases you into their world of sound, passively enveloping you in with a warm welcome and understanding, guiding us through the realm of our minds where all things are known free and at peace.
Himalaya is the name of the musical group out of Brooklyn New York, self classified as psychedelic / rock / shoegaze, which hits the mark. Other bands share the moniker but thankfully this one has the full social media package. Here’s Himalaya on Facebook and Himalaya on Twitter. And the Himalaya MySpace page has a good playlist of their songs waiting.
New Indie Song: The Kickback – Sting’s Teacher Years
Just by the look of it, The Kickback is just getting started as evidenced by their advanced songwriting, addictive rhythmic syncopation, and killer vocals. Because a band this good, has these types of humble beginnings for only so long. There’s a time limit on this thing folks, so get in there and get your autographs and front row live show spots while you still can.
These guys, out of South Dakota living in Chicago just released their 2nd EP last year “Great Self Love”, which was preceeded only by their 1st EP “Alliteration, Etc…”. You’ll find their new songs worth setting to repeat via their Official MySpace playlist. I wouldn’t so much classify them as an indie rock band because of their style, which has more of a lazy salsa bar kind ring, spicy and well timed. Although they do classify themselves as Indie, so I’m not that far off, but then they list “Showtunes”, which I’m a little confused about. Maybe the band can email me and expand my mind on that genre. Maybe it means, “The ease with which each song can be inserted into the soundtrack of most films.”, I do not know sir.
Maybe if you like The Kickback on Facebook and comment on their page they’ll tell you all about it.

Tiny Danza’s debut album “YOU COULD HAVE IT ALL” will be released in stores everywhere June 14th, 2011 through BENT PENNY/FONTANA NORTH/UNIVERSAL. “Beat Fly” has also been chosen to be professionally authored and is available for download on Harmonix’s ROCK BAND.

TINY DANZA’S ROCK BAND video for “Beat Fly” can be seen here: Youtube Video
Download link for their summer hit here: Beat Fly
Tiny Danza has the upbeat party dance sound that makes you wanna get up and start dancing. Much the same way I feel about Jamiroquai. But they mix in some Down With Webster & LMFAO lyricism and hip-hop rock transitions.
